Porous carbon is one of the core raw materials for silicon carbon negative electrodes, with extremely high compatibility with silicon carbon negative electrodes. Using porous carbon material as the carbon skeleton of silicon carbon negative electrode, silane gas is introduced into the pores of the porous carbon skeleton particles through CVD vapor deposition method, and the gas is heated to precipitate into silicon nanoparticles dispersed in the pores of the porous carbon, synthesizing silicon carbon composite materials.
Porous carbon plays a crucial role in the performance of the final silicon carbon negative electrode：
1）Buffer the volume expansion effect during silicon insertion into lithium through the voids inside porous carbon
2）The carbon layer coating reduces the direct contact between bare silicon and electrolyte, suppresses the repeated growth of SEI film (solid electrolyte interface), and thus improves the rate performance and first coulombic efficiency of lithium batteries.
Therefore, pure silicon carbon negative electrodes have extremely high requirements for the quality of porous carbon: the quality of the carbon skeleton directly determines the mass production capacity of the product, and different porous carbons need to be matched with different graphite to exhibit good performance at the battery cell end. The requirements for carbon skeleton pore size, pore volume, and porosity vary greatly in different scenarios, and the performance differs greatly. Professional battery cell designers need to cooperate to complete the development.
